# How to set up lead sources and sub-sources

> A written walkthrough of the video showing how to set up lead sources and sub-sources in Leaf360, instead of leaving everything labeled Website.

This is the written version of a short video showing why "Website" as a lead source tells you nothing once you're running multiple landing pages and ad campaigns, and how to set up sources that actually mean something.

Prefer to watch it instead? Here's the video:

<iframe width="100%" height="400" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wAlzjX5d3tk" title="How To Set Up Lead Sources and Sub-Sources" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen />

For where Source shows up once leads are flowing in, see [Sales Pipeline](/mortgage-crm/sales-leads). This page just follows the video.

## Setting up your sources

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Lead Sources">
    Click **Account Settings** at the bottom left, then open **Lead Sources**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start from the defaults">
    Leaf360's default source categories are already there.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a new source, or add sub-sources to an existing one">
    Click into an existing source — for example **Social Media** — to see its sub-sources, and add your own to get more specific. For a source like **Website**, that might mean splitting a single generic source into your company website, individual landing pages, or specific ad campaigns.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Referral** works a little differently: instead of typing sub-sources in by hand, it automatically pulls its list from your referral partners and business contacts.

<Note>
  Once set, a lead's **Source** (and **Sub-Source** or **Referral Contact**, depending on the source type) can also be set in bulk when importing a file — see [Import Data](/mortgage-crm/import-data).
</Note>
