# How to use Claude to write your CRM templates

> A written walkthrough of the video showing how to hand Claude or ChatGPT the right merge variable list before asking it to draft an email or SMS template.

This is the written version of a short video for anyone using Claude or ChatGPT to draft email and SMS templates outside of Leaf360: give it the variable list first, or the copy it writes won't merge correctly.

## Getting the variable list to Claude

  <Step title="Open a new template">
    Open the marketing suite, go to **Email Templates**, and click **New Template**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch to Advanced">
    In the top right, switch the editor mode to **Advanced Split** — the HTML code editor alongside a live preview.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the variable list">
    Click **Copy Variables**. This copies every variable Leaf360 recognizes, so you can hand the whole list to Claude alongside your prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste Claude's output back in">
    Give Claude the variable list plus what you want the email or text to say, then paste the HTML it writes back into the **Advanced Split** editor.

<Note>
  In **Advanced Split** mode, the HTML is the source of truth — the separate call-to-action fields in the properties panel are dropped when you save. This is the same mode the AI Email Builder calls **Advanced HTML**.
